De Administrando Imperio [On Administering the Empire], by Byzantine emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus (913-959, with co-rulers) (Washington, 1993; repr. of 1967 edition), Dumbarton Oaks Texts #1. Greek text edited by Gyula Moravcsik, with facing English translation by Romilly Jenkins, in 348 bookmarked and searchable pdf pages. This document was written by the emperor in 948-952 for his son and heir, Romanus II, as a guide to foreign and domestic policies. It describes, among many other things, the histories and characters of the nations neighboring the Byzantine Empire or incorporated into it.
